Volnovakha \u2013 City of Heroes<\/strong><\/p>\n

This medal celebrates the heroic deeds, widespread acts of heroism and resilience that residents of Volnovakha displayed during the defense of the city from russian attacks. Volnovakha has been at war since May 2014, while during the full-scale invasion the city found itself on the front line, where fierce fighting was taking place. The city, which lies on important routes connecting Mariupol with Donetsk and with Zaporizhzhia, was a tasty morsel for the invaders. Relentless airstrikes and artillery shelling destroyed all of the city\u2019s infrastructure, leaving the city practically wiped off the map, and occupied.<\/p>\n

Obverse: above is the semicircular legend \u0423\u041a\u0420\u0410\u0407\u041d\u0410 (Ukraine), under which are Ukraine\u2019s small coat of arms and the medal\u2019s issue year \u2013 2023 (vertical, against the backdrop of a map); in the center, against a smooth background, is the legend \u041c\u0406\u0421\u0422\u041e\/\u0412\u041e\u041b\u041d\u041e\u0412\u0410\u0425\u0410\/\u0413\u0415\u0420\u041e\u0407\u0412 (city\/Volnovakha\/heroes); in the word Volnovakha, the Ukrainian letter \u201c\u043d\u201d is replaced with a fragment of railway tracks, which reach Ukraine\u2019s small coat of arms and stands for the city\u2019s desire to return home, to Ukraine; there are also stylized fragments of maps of Donetsk (above) and Mariupol (below); beneath, to the right is the mint mark of the NBU\u2019s Banknote Printing and Minting Works.<\/p>\n

Reverse: there is the following stylized composition: an image of a Ukrainian soldier (to the left) and stylized elements of Volnovakha\u2019s coat of arms: against the backdrop of a curved line (symbolizing Volnovakha\u2019s location in one of the highest places of the Azov Upland) and a wavy line with fountains (standing for the Volnovakha River, the name of which is derived from the large number of springs in the area), are a flying bird and its reflection on a smooth background, symbolizing people\u2019s confidence that the city will be liberated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
